Referee Compensation 2025

As highlighted in the fees section, the center referee gets $70 and each assistant referee gets $50. That’s $190 in total, split between the two teams at $85 a piece.

If you only have two referees when the game starts, you are not obligated to provide for the late/non-existent third referee. If the referee arrives late, you can take care of that at halftime.

Use your discretion – they do work hard, and covering the whole field is a lot of work. Especially if you are short-handed.

Hydration Rules

At the AGM of January 11, 2025, the league announced that it was formalized what had been an informal rule about hydration breaks. Starting with the 2025, any time the temperature is 85 degrees or higher, there will be a hydration break at approximately halfway between quarters. Unlike halftime, the hydration breaks will be a running clock. Please inform the referees about this change, and emphasize that it is a running clock so there is no confusion about the total game time – which remains at 100 minutes.

30/40 Chat Room

The decision to break up the league to “over 30” and “over 40” for 2025 will be a work in progress. We ‘get’ that.

To facilitate those necessary discussions, and for the good of the game, we will host a Slack channel. This is for any and all members — present, former and future — teams and players who need to discuss the in’s and out’s as we move toward this goal.

Please join the Slack channel. We will moderate the discussions, so please be respectful.

AGM Set – Jan 11, 2025

The annual Member meeting is set. Please set your reminder for Saturday January 11am. We will get set at approximately 10:30am, to be ready promptly at 11am.

Every team needs a representative.

Please be patient – I suffered a stroke on Thanksgiving morning and I have Aphasia, so it takes me a little longer. Thank you for your patience.

2024 Summer Season Registration is Open for Business

Your team manager should have contacted you with instructions for how to register as a player and/or team official (e.g. manager or coach). A new twist this year is the addition of your player-specific “team assignment” registration code. USA Soccer has implemented this to ensure that each player is uniquely identified in the nationwide registration system.

As has been the case for a few years already, your registration payment will be processed through Soccer Connect. The Soccer Connect payment portal accepts credit cards, debit cards (Visa/MasterCard) as well as e-checks drawn directly from your bank. As has also been the practice for several years, rest assured that your credit/debit card will not be charged until your registration has been accepted by the GLWSL league registrar.

Returning players and team officials (managers and coaches) should use your existing Soccer Connect account.  If your last name has changed since the 2023 registration, a new copy of your driver’s license will need to be uploaded into the system.

Please note: Managers and assistant managers – if you are both playing and managing/coaching, you need to register as a coach and/or assistant coach in order to have access to the team roster and other functions that you will need to use for game sheets.

New players/coaches – you will need to create a Soccer Connect account. A head shot picture and a copy of your driver’s license is required for you to be able to register. You need to pay close attention to upload these documents in the appropriate boxes. If you are missing either document your registration will not be processed.

Everyone, whether new or returning – your player registration must be completed by May 30, 2024 in order to be eligible to play in the first game of the season… which is slated for the first Sunday of June! Squeeeeeee!!!!

2024 Annual General Meeting

All 2023 teams should have already received this notice. But in case you missed it, or in case you weren’t formally part of our 2023 season, below is a re-post of the official notice:

Dear GLWSL Managers and players,
I hope this email finds you well. We are delighted to extend an invitation to you and your team to attend our annual general meeting, which will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 11am. Your presence at this meeting is crucial, and we kindly request that either the Team Manager or a representative from your Team attend. This meeting is an opportunity for us to recap the 2023 season, and discuss plans for the upcoming 2024 season!
2023 was a huge success for GLWSL. We are now the 3rd largest adult soccer league in Michigan. The Over 30 Divisions added 3 teams, increasing our total to 23 for the summer session. New teams, and new players are important to the growth and success of this league and we appreciate your continued support. In the fall, we had approx. 70 players, including 25 new players from all age groups play on 6 teams.
As the 2024 season begins in just a few short months, we have started the planning process. We are incredibly excited about the upcoming season and look forward to sharing our enthusiasm and plans with you. Your input and participation are invaluable as we aim to make this season a remarkable success for all involved.
Please confirm your attendance or designate a representative from your team to attend by January 14th. We cannot wait to step on the pitch, seeing our friends, and making memories with many of you. Thank you for being part of this soccer community and your continued support in it. We look forward to seeing all.

Kind Regards,
Kimberly Lemaux President – Great Lakes Women’s Soccer League
